Police arrest two car thieves

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, Jul 28, 2010 - 11:57:41 am PDT

Two people from Hayward were arrested in Half Moon Bay. The pair was driving a stolen car filled with pilfered items, including a car stereo, wallets and other goods, police say.

Half Moon Bay Police officers first spotted the stolen vehicle parked crookedly in front of a closed business around 3 a.m. on Sunday. When an officer passed the car, the vehicle backed out and drove away.

Police officers pulled over the vehicle. The 18-year-old driver said the car belonged to a friend, but police soon became suspicious as they noticed a car stereo with cut wires inside. A further search revealed a stereo face-plate, two wallets and other suspicious items, including a shaved key commonly used to break into cars.

Police reports indicate the two suspects had stolen the car that night in Half Moon Bay, after ditching another car in town that they had stolen earlier in Hayward.

Police arrested the two suspected car thieves, identified as 21-year-old Marina Flores and 18-year-old Andy Herrera.
