Wesley was born in the Santa Maria area, where he started his career in the petroleum industry with the Associated Oil Company of California. Later, he worked for Bell Petroleum Company in Santa Fe Springs, and finally with Pacific Western Apache Petroleum Company in the oil fields in La Honda. At the age of 65, he started a second career with the City of San Francisco as an engineer, and worked there until he retired at the age of 75. He was a lifelong member of the Masons and the Native Sons of California. He was active in the formation of the La Honda Volunteer Fire Brigade and acted as their first captain. He was also chairman of the La Honda Junior Rodeo and participated in other early La Honda Day activities.
Wesley spent his final years split between living in Sonora and Sunnyvale. He touched a great many people during his life, and will be sorely missed by his friends, and even more so by his family.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Guadalupe Cemetery in Guadalupe, Calif. Reception immediately following at the Far Western Restaurant, also in Guadalupe. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children, or to a favorite charity.
