Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, Mar 10, 2010 - 04:41:32 pm PST

Janet Rushforth Steelman died in South San Francisco on Feb. 28, 2010, after a short illness. Janet was born on Dec. 25, 1915, in Paisley, Scotland, and immigrated to the United States with her family when she was 8 years old. She grew up and married Randolph Marshall Steelman in New Jersey. They moved to California after World War II where Janet worked for many years at the Ethan Allen store in Mountain View.

Janet moved to El Granada in 1997 following her husband’s death. Janet had great joy in the friendships and kindness she found at Senior Coastsiders, which she attended five days a week until she relocated to an assisted-living facility a year ago.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Howard (Al) Tevis, of El Granada and grandsons Parvinder (Valerie) Dua, Kanwarjit (Sandy) Dua and Ted (Nadine) Tevis and their families, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Janet’s ashes will be scattered in the Pacific within view of her favorite living room chair.
