Half Moon Bay resident Randy Weber was awarded first place last week in an annual photo contest held by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. Contest judges look for compelling nature images snapped on any of the district’s 57,000 acres of open space.

Weber’s photo depicts a rushing stream winding through a lush green forest on the district’s Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. He won a zeppelin tour with Airship Ventures in Mountain View and a dining gift card to the Los Altos Grill. Second place went to Los Altos resident Karl Gohl for an image of a foggy forest stroll. Stanford graduate student Alex Stoll took third with his snapshot of a glowing mountaintop sunset.
