Celebrate life stories from the past
From 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, in the Cañada Cove clubhouse, “Celebrate!” an anthology from the Life Stories writing class in Half Moon Bay.
Taught by Coastside seniors Jackie and Ed Hibler, the mostly senior writers offer perspective, Jackie said.
“I think the times have changed so drastically that our children and grandchildren need to know, we didn’t always have air conditioning, computers or cell phones,” she said. “When grandchildren come to Thanksgiving dinner and they’re texting throughout the meal, something is getting lost. We’re talking about the importance of listening, and telling our stories.”
One writer, she said, grew up under Nazism and learned “how hard it was to say ‘Heil Hitler.’”
The ongoing Monday morning class at Lesley Gardens involves people “from 60s to 90s,” Hibler said, and serves a purpose. “It’s great to leave your jewelry or rocking chair to your kids, but we think they really want to know what was valued in life,” she said.
For information, contact Hibler at 726-7266.
