Evening of acoustic covers, originals planned

Expect acoustic covers with a rich infusion of originals by local musicians who are familiar faces in local open mikes and on local stages — plus food and ambience — in a concert set for Friday at Cypress Meadows.

The doors of the center at 343 Cypress Ave. in Moss Beach, open at 6 p.m. March 12 for appetizers, beverages and desserts. The music starts at 7 p.m.

The performers are local with the exception of Pacifica resident Nancy Hall with the Curios, playing acoustic-based, folk- and cabaret-influenced rock. Vocalist Hall, on guitar and ukulele, joins Jim Kerwin on standup bass, Lee Parvin on piano and accordion and Marc Games on acoustic guitar and ukulele.

Hall is a music veteran, having toured and recorded with rockers Neil Young, Taj Mahal and others. She is the Curios’ lead vocalist and chief songwriter, penning songs about “interesting characters I meet on my travels through life.”

The Curios’ new CD, “Pillow Book,” named for the little instructional volume Hall said that newlyweds of yesteryear found under their pillows that first night, is full of songs about “human interactions from the viewpoint of trying to be understood.”

Also taking the Cypress Meadows stage will be the Living Room Set acoustic trio of Diane Burns and Bob Peterson on guitar and Peter Bland on bass, with all three on vocals, performing original and cover folk songs. Prolific songwriter Boyd Ritner will be on hand, and Mo Robinson — warming up for the annual St. Patrick’s Day musical revelry at Cameron’s Restaurant and Inn with Burns — will perform original and Irish-influenced cover songs.

Tickets for the event are $25, which includes food and beverages.

For information and reservations, call Cypress Meadows at 728-8045.
