Jazz Search West — a part of Rhythmic Concepts, the Oakland producers of Jazz Camp West which takes place annually in La Honda — is holding its first annual Bay Area talent search, for which jazz musicians are invited to apply.

The search is seeking solo vocalists and instrumentalists to apply. Contestants will have a chance to compete at the venue of their choice over three consecutive weeks this month.

Each week, three winners will be selected by a panel of judges, and the nine finalists will compete at the Grand Finale at the new Piedmont Piano Company in Oakland on March 27.

The judges consist of a cadre of veteran Bay Area jazz musicians Madeline Eastman, Wayne Wallace, Sandy Cressman, Nicolas Bearde and Trelawney Rose.

The three possible dates to compete are: from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Avonova in Oakland; from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, March 11, at the 19 Broadway Nightclub in Fairfax and from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at the Pier 23 Café in San Francisco.

Prizes include free tuition to Jazz Camp West 2010 in La Honda, scheduled for June 26 to July 3 this year, a four-hour recording session at Live Oak Studios in Berkeley with a professional engineer and a free demo CD.
