Baseball team drops first two games

The Half Moon Bay High School baseball team dodged enough raindrops last week to get in the two scheduled nonleague games.

However, coach Steve Terraszas might have preferred a long, steady, rainstorm.

The Cougars dropped both games, falling to Washington of San Francisco, 8-4, Saturday, and Capuchino, 2-1, two days earlier.

The Capuchino game was especially painful. The Cougars were one out from pulling off the win. But following two singles, a drive to right field fell in and bounced off the glove, ending that game.

Fielding miscues early had the Cougars in a 4-0 hole against Washington. Though Nik France collected three hits and Dominic Fama added a two-run double, it wasn’t enough.

“I am not happy where we are right now,” Terraszas said. “I feel we can play much better. We are not hitting and fielding like we should.”

But there are no complaints about the pitching. David Moody was the tough luck losing pitcher against Capuchino. None of the seven hits he allowed were solid hits. He struck out seven while walking four.

Terraszas is in the first year as the baseball coach. With a few exceptions, the team has little to no varsity experience.

“I know our best baseball is ahead of us,” Terraszas said. “But we have a tough schedule.”

The Cougars were scheduled to host Mills, Monday. Results of the game were not available at press time.

The Cougars play Thursday at St. Ignatius and Saturday, hosting Cupertino. r
