Bettie Shields

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, Feb 24, 2010 - 11:41:24 am PST

Bettie Clarke Jones Shields passed away peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 28, 2010, in Redwood City, Calif., surrounded by her loving family. Bettie was born May 13, 1916, in Alameda, Calif.

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Bettie is survived by her daughters Bettie Susan (Art) Everett, Harriet Lindsay (Jeff) Shields-Green, Metta Patricia Shields; granddaughter Lindsay Freeman (Shaun) Richardson; great-grandchildren Braeden Luke Richardson and Dahlia Suzanne Richardson; sister Sadie Virginia Brown and many nieces and nephews.

As well as being an avid gardener, superb jam maker, steelhead spearer, seamstress extraordinaire, and enthusiastic world traveler, her legacy includes helping her family and friends to live each day with happiness and humor, and always illuminating the room like the brightest shining star that she was.

She will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Pescadero Community Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pescadero Community Church at 363 Stage Road, Pescadero, CA 94060.
