Big Wave site visit delayed indefinitely

A visit to the site of the proposed Big Wave development in Princeton set for March 8 has been cancelled and delayed to “a date uncertain,” the San Mateo County Planning and Building Department announced Wednesday.

The county planning commission scheduled the visit to view story poles for Big Wave, a 225,000 square-foot office park and wellness center proposed to be built along Airport Street between Half Moon Bay Airport and Pillar Point Marsh. Initially, commissioners intended to follow up the site visit with a public hearing two days later on March 10, at which they were expected to review the project’s final Environmental Impact Report and possibly vote on the project.

County planners announced a delay for that hearing earlier this month, which took pressure off Big Wave developers to erect story poles. The county is requiring story poles to be up 10 days prior to the public hearing.

Authors of the Big Wave draft Environmental Impact Report are working with county planners to write responses to comments submitted during the public review period, which ended Dec. 24. More than 300 comments were sent in.

County Planner Camille Leung says digesting the stack of comments is slowing the prep work needed to produce the final impact report. The planning commission needs to see the story poles and review the final report before coming to a decision on Big Wave.
