David Anthony Alves

David Anthony Alves passed away suddenly on Jan. 10, 2010, at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife Pat, two sons (Tony and Eddy), two daughters (Stacy and Kerry), two stepsons (Ian and Jake), as well as seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Alves was a past resident of San Gregorio and Half Moon Bay. He was a graduate of Half Moon Bay High and known by many "old timers" in the community.

David, known as "Pappy," retired from the Scottsdale Unified School District in Arizona several years ago after 18 years as a groundskeeper. In accordance with his wishes, David will be cremated and his ashes will be spread over his favorite fishing spot. A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at Heritage Funeral Chapel located at 6830 W. Thunderbird Road in Peoria, Ariz.

Lederman named Arts Educator of the Year


Local actor, director and theater arts teacher Michael Lederman of El Granada, has been named San Mateo County Arts Educator of the Year by the Peninsula Arts Council.
